In the heart of the Lot valley, in the north of Aveyron, hidden away by its magnificent natural surroundings, the village of Conques is one of the major stages on the Santiago de Compostela pilgrim route and one of the great centres of Christianity in Europe.

Since the year 1000 the schist roofs, the ochre and red walls covered with roses and wisteria have been welcoming visitors and pilgrims who come to gaze in awe at the Abbey of Sainte-Foy, with its tympanum made up of 124 figures.
