The village of Autoire, hidden away in the valley of the same name, comes as a surprise. There is, first of all, the awe-inspiring natural cirque at the bottom of which the village nestles, the rugged cliffs, the noise of the torrent crashing down for 30 metres from rock to rock in successive waterfalls… in short, nature in its most spectacular mood.

In this sheltered valley, you can explore the perfectly-preserved treasures of the village of Autoire. A stroll through the streets is a must if you want to discover the old Renaissance dwellings, sumptuous manor-houses, former second homes for the nobles prior to the French Revolution, or the old farmers’ houses that have been magnificently restored. It is a range of architecture that appears timeless. It is difficult to believe that the village was besieged by the English during the Hundred Years’ War or that it was used as landmark by many a brigand.
