Figeac is just an hour from Cahors, surrounded by the landscape of the Quercy plateau - the "causses" - and close to the cliffs of the spectacular valley of the river Célé: it is the perfect place for a break.

From the 12th century onwards Figeac stood on one of the main arteries leading to the south and became a staging point on the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage route. Wealthy merchants built remarkable houses and palaces, endowing the town with a magnificent historic centre.
In addition to its exceptional architectural heritage, which has resulted in its being listed as a “Town of Art and History ”, Figeac has also been awarded a “Station Kid” badge, because it has lots to offer young people.
Figeac has also earned a well-deserved reputation as a cultural centre, in particular thanks to one of its most illustrious sons: Jean-François Champollion. The house in which he was born today houses the unusual Museum of World Scripts, which traces the history of writing and which, of course, pays homage to the wonderful work achieved by this renowned Egyptologist. Do not miss the Place des Ecritures, which is close by: here you will find an immense block of black granite, a reproduction of the Rosetta Stone.
